Long time I was looking in the note with a phone number by following lettering Modris Greitāns, director of Institute of Electronics and Computer Science. I was very thrilled and nervous in the same time, emotions was boiling in me like water in the teapot. This was the first call in relevance of my research. Of course that I was jittered, this area was entirely new for me and I didn’t feel really confident in this area. After a while, I clear up my thoughts and made a call.

When mister Greitāns picked up the handset, I courteously presented with me and began to expound my idea of the research. When the conversation went already on right track, excitement was disappeared and I was able to tackle the “bull by the horns”. I offered to meet and to pronounce all onsite. Everything was greater than I was planned and we arranged an appointment in the office of Institute.

I’m there in agreed time and with surely step I go inside in the building that’s built in the sixties. By coming into office of mister Greitāns the girl suavely meets me, she allocates place in wardrobe for my jacket and leads me to the room beside. Wooden furniture, built-in closets and gigantic lamp of glass in the middle of his office proves that in time of Soviet this has been a very valuable Institute. This image was not surprising because here in the seventies invented the details for moon crawler.

Polite man in the best age meets me, this is mister Greitāns. We greeted and sat down to the table of negotiation. I began to recite in details my plans, how I see could to solve the problem of spinal cord injury. Listened till the end of my idea, he just wiped a whisker and said that this is a very ambitious plan and although the Institute has conducted a few years ago the study of hand nerves, this would be a completely different level of device. „ We could start to think for something, if we knew how this device will be connected to the nerves”, he says reflective „ and, in addition, the question arises, if our Institute agree to this research, who will finance the project?” I tell that on this thing while I don’t have an answer. I was so infatuated with looking for the idea that financial aspects had stayed in the background. Mister Greitāns, begin to talk about European funds, which he is used for their projects. There is a program like HORIZON 2020 that finances the similar projects. To my ears this information is like a music which is quickly being recorded in my notes. At the end of our conversation we agree on that if I’ll get that necessary information, Institute of Electronics and Computer Science will readily to take a part in the project.

By take a leave we shook each other hands I thank the girl for delicious coffee and went away. My mind was busy with million ideas, because – when I was looking for answers I just got new questions. Evaluating a conversation the basic idea was clear – I have to get information about finances and the way how to connect to the nerve endings.
